MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES INTENT

To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world. (Chinese proverb)

At Fremington we believe that learning a foreign language is like opening a door to another world.  It provides and insight and an opening to other cultures, and fosters curiosity, understanding and empathy of other countries and for the people of the world.  Our aim is to teach children to be able to express their ideas and thoughts and communicate in another language.  They should be able to understand and respond both in speech and in writing.  The teaching of French at Fremington will provide children with the foundations for further learning at secondary, giving our children the skills and opportunities to be able to study and work in other countries.

"If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart." (Nelson Mandela)
