Thank you to all our families who were able to join us at the church and to those who contributed to our collections for the local foodbank. All donations were gratefully received. We were very proud of the children.

As part of our topic, we explored the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, learning all about the vibrant marine animals and their unique underwater habitats. From colourful fish to graceful sea turtles and swaying coral, the children were captivated by the beauty beneath the ocean’s surface. We recreated the beautiful coral and by using the skills we have learnt throughout the year which include cutting, attaching, sticking, and by drawing our favourite sea creatures by observing different shapes that we could see.

Over the past few weeks, we have watched the caterpillars munch their way through many, many leaves. We then observed them weave silk pads to transform into a cocoon and finally, emerge as beautiful cabbage white butterflies. We have been releasing the butterflies throughout the week and the children enjoyed waving them off. They have also done some fantastic observational drawings of them using pencil and charcoal.

Over 200 children from schools all over the local area were in attendance. The sun made a welcome appearance but the accompanying heat made for some difficult exercise conditions. Despite this, the children ran, hopped, bounced, jumped and threw all morning long! Their enthusiasm and hard work were incredible and their behaviour on the trip was exemplary- they were amazing ambassadors for our school.

All our amazing year ones should feel incredibly proud of themselves!

The children have replicated their own homes and have been learning how to assemble and connect different materials using a variety of different methods.  

We have been busy creating our new flower beds and the children have loved planting the seeds and flowers, caring for them and watching them grow. We should soon have potatoes and carrots!

We have been learning all about the seasons and how plants grow and it was lovely to see the children transferring what they had learnt. They went on a hunt for leaves, flowers and other natural materials to make a collage of a tree and then planted radish seeds. In the afternoon we got the chance to explore the beautiful gardens and followed the trail of Guess How Much I Love You.

Over the course of a dynamic 6-week drawing course, students explored various techniques such as continuous line drawing, observing shadows, using charcoal, and mastering back-and-forth line drawing. They also experimented with the exciting medium of Brusho, creating bold, vibrant splashes of colour. The results were truly amazing, with each piece reflecting both the technical skills they developed and their personal artistic expression. From the bold, expressive drawings of our youngest learners to the intricate, thoughtful creations of our Year 6 students, the quality of work was simply outstanding. The showcase was a testament to the dedication and hard work of every student, full of colour, creativity, and incredible achievement.

We explored the solar system in a 3D Planetarium, watched a fun scientist demonstrate how to launch a rocket, and interacted with lots of exciting equipment. We used animation tools, built structures to learn about our brains and bodies, blew giant bubbles, and even watched how a tornado forms! Year 5 had an absolutely amazing day, showing fantastic curiosity and brilliant behaviour. They made their teachers and the school very proud – well done!

We decided to go and explore the frost and ice before it melted, we made handprints, wrote our names, ran in the frosty grass leaving footprints behind us. We found some ice in a tray and had great fun smashing it and touching it. We explored all around the school and found frost and ice in lots of places …… we were happy to get back to the warmth of Nursery though

We went on a Hedgehog hunt, inspired by the Michael Story "we're going on a bear hunt"  We then wrote our own "We're going on a hedgehog hunt" story- including some amazing adjectives! 

We ended our afternoon by watching a video the man himself perform one of his most loved poems, "Chocolate Cake" We all loved his performance, it was hilarious! After that, there was only one way to end Michael Rosen day . . .  we all had a big slice of chocolate cake! (being careful not to leave any chocolate smudges on our face!)

We wore tribal headgear to show which city-state we were playing for and luckily, we didn't have to sacrifice any of the losing team to keep the gods happy!

We had some amazing running from all with several top 10 finishers. They should be extremely proud of the way they conducted themselves in the race and when cheering on their friends. Thank you to the staff (Mr Philps, Mrs Dunn, Mrs Goodban and Mrs Scott) who made the event possible. Thanks as well to the parents who came and supported, we really appreciate it and the children always give it that little bit extra when they see a friendly face in the crowd! Well done all!

They were looking at Typography, which is the different styles of font, and how these can be used to create interesting pieces of work.

The children were going to create a map as a self-portrait and include parts of their lives, their hobbies; details about their family life and their favourite things.  The parents all got stuck in and helped the children with their maps of their lives.  It was a very creative afternoon. We can’t wait to see their finished products.

We left eggs to soak in different liquids for a week and analysed the results. Sammy (a dental hygienist) also came in to explain how to brush our teeth properly as well as adding to our knowledge of hidden sugars in certain foods. After these few lessons, we are certainly going to be brushing our teeth twice a day!

We visited our forest schools area and worked in teams to collect materials and produce patterns and pictures with the natural resources we found. The results look amazing!

We were then treated to some wonderful recitals from students from Y2 up to Y6. They showed confidence, skill and pride. Sarah finished the assembly with a rendition of the Harry Potter theme tune on the flute and Pink Panther on the saxophone! Wonderful! Despite the weather, both children and staff had a wonderful time engaging in a range of fun musical activities alongside many other schools from across the county. Some of the activities involved Ceilidh dancing, Taiko drumming, and even a chance to appear on local radio! The trip was so popular that children have already been asking about this next year too!

When we got in there, there was a big skeleton of a mammoth blue whale hanging from the tall ceiling above our heads. In another room there was this big - and I mean BIG - blue whale but not a skeleton of it this time; it was a massive sculpture of it - bigger than a boat.  

Then we got shown to our rooms in the hostel in which we were staying. 

On the Tuesday, we went to the Science Museum. We went to the earthquake simulator, and we stood in the shop and then the floor shook to make it feel like it was a real earthquake. Then after the science museum we went to the Tower of London where Anne Boleyn was beheaded and saw some of the History of London and England. 

Still on the Tuesday after the Tower of London we went on a boat trip to the London eye; the London eye was fun, and we got to see the beautiful view up above. After the London eye, we went to a west end show to watch Matilda the Musical. It was amazing my favourite character was Ms Trunchbull. The bit that surprised me was how Ms Trunchbull flung the kid by her hair. 

On the last day, on Wednesday, we went to the Harry potter Studios - it was so fun. We got to go on to the train and into the great hall. I had the best time there. There was this dragon that ran towards us, and it was scary and it blew fire. After that, we could not see it. Still in the Harry Potter Studios we were allowed to go into the forest where the spiders were, and the spiders jumped down and up. Also, in the big cave laid Aragog the mother of all spiders. 

After that, we got in the coach and got back at 9:30. We had an incredible time on residential and seeing the sights of London.

The children went on a coastline walk looking at different coastal features, completed mini-missions in the dunes looking for different plants and animals, and then scrambled over Pebble Ridge to meet the lifeguards and find out about beach safety. The children managed so well in the heat, and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Over 300 children from schools across North Devon played four matches across the day. The Fremington team had a mixed day in terms of results but their skills and knowledge improved bowl on bowl and they represented themselves and the school brilliantly. It was a joy to take them. Thank you to parents/carers for supporting with transporting children to and from the event.

We explored both the tropical and Mediterranean biomes throughout the day. We collected data about the sizes of the leaves and measured the temperature and humidity at different locations within the biomes. We then thought about how global warming would impact the growth of the plants in both climates. Some of us also braved the rope bridge up in the canopy walk! What a tiring, but amazing day!
